Who am I?

“I have known Malik Roberts since he was a 7-year-old, working diligently to meet his Occupational Therapy and educational goals while constantly creating.  Though many of his peers at that time may have been climbing on the playground or running on the soccer field, Malik was clearly destined for art.  As a young child, his early art was deeply influenced by stories, cartoons, and classical music.  Overtime, this blossomed to include the influence of film, current events, broader genres of music (i.e. jazz, pop, folk), and history.  He has learned to harness his strengths to meticulously and thoughtfully design each of his pieces. He has not only grown as an artist, but as someone who is able to weave his own story, as a person with Autism, alongside the stories, history, and meaning of his art.  It has been a joy to see Malik’s growth and maturity and his art can truly be enjoyed by all!” 

“I first met Malik Roberts when he was in fifth grade, and his outstanding artistic abilities were very evident from the beginning. He was heavily influenced by the animations of Walt Disney and Warner Bros. While many young children may have dreamt of being an animator and spent hours copying images from their favorite cartoons, Malik made his images from memory.  While he had a particular love for animation, Malik fully engaged in a variety of media and disciplines. As Malik developed his artistic skills he began developing his own style, even in his early years through high school… It has been an overwhelming delight to see how much his talent has exploded; as seen in so many of his current pieces. While you can see some elements from his early years, there is a profound sense of excitement in the way he utilizes bold colors, turning out intriguing images and compositions that truly are in a class of their own. Malik’s signature style is not just a reflection of his artistic talent but also reflects a depth from a variety of his life experiences.”
